Project Description

The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (National Cemetery Administration; Washington, D.C.) is located in Elwood, Illinois. The scope of work for this project was a complete site development (12 acres) entailing demolition and removal of existing structures. New general construction activities included the creation of 2,000 columbarium niches (reinforced concrete/marble), stone masonry committal shelters, site utilities (water/sewers), earthwork/grading, paving (concrete/asphalt), landscaping/plant material together with mechanical and electrical construction activities. In addition, the following features were defined and the responsibilities of the prime contractor: security requirements (government installation), environmental protection implementation, stormwater pollution prevention measures, accelerated control completion schedule to accommodate VA and project winterization (vertical above grade structure enclosures).
